My new reality is entirely digital<\/em>, unless it\u2019s meaningful<\/em> to me.\u00a0 I mean, actual conversations<\/em> used to be cool, but who really needs<\/em> them anymore?\u00a0 If the pandemic taught us anything, it\u2019s that we can hide away in our homes and never talk to anyone again<\/em>.\u00a0 Except maybe that Verizon voice-remote\u2026 but that\u2019s just some misplaced technology that started to work about 20 years too late.<\/p>\n I don\u2019t want to go into a bank anymore.<\/strong>\u00a0 I used to have a dedicated bank manager who knew me and provided personalized service.\u00a0 Now it\u2019s just people staring into a terminal and repeating what I can see myself.\u00a0 I don\u2019t need to engage with these people – they can\u2019t help me.\u00a0 Why do I need meaningless transactional dialog with someone who seems pissed off with the world?<\/p>\n I don\u2019t need to talk to airline customer service anymore.<\/strong>\u00a0 They just repeat what I can see myself online.\u00a0 I don\u2019t need to engage with these people \u2013 they can\u2019t help me.\u00a0 And I don\u2019t need to spend half my life on hold\u2026 just automate this nightmare for me, please.<\/p>\n I don\u2019t need to go to the Apple Store anymore.<\/strong>\u00a0 I know what I want and can buy it myself. \u00a0I don\u2019t need some cool kid making me feel like some aging techno-moron. Just ship me my purchase, please.<\/p>\n I don\u2019t need to call Amazon customer service anymore.<\/strong> It takes forever to find a number to call and they\u2019ll just tell me they\u2019ll get back to me\u2026 and never do.\u00a0 Or just accuse me of lying and hang up (yes, that actually happened).<\/p>\n I don\u2019t need to talk to my cellphone provider anymore.<\/strong> \u00a0They just sell me upgrades I don\u2019t want and put me through to other departments for the help I need, which never pick up or send me back to the original department that tries to sell me those upgrades again. Why persist with this painful waste of time?<\/p>\n I called google enterprise support once<\/strong> (yes, there actually is one) and was emailed a manual to read to solve my issue.\u00a0 But the person was<\/em> friendly and had a nice Irish accent.<\/p>\n I don\u2019t need to talk to my colleagues anymore \u2013 I hardly ever see them these days<\/strong>.\u00a0 I can get what I need over Zoom or Teams chat.\u00a0 In fact, I don\u2019t really need to talk to my boss unless I need to resign, but I guess I can do that over Zoom too\u2026 And am sure if I get sacked, it won\u2019t be via an actual conversation<\/em>.<\/p>\n My mom and dad do sometimes call me<\/strong>, but never with any forewarning\u2026 and I am always busy when they do.\u00a0 But they can (just about) use texts now, so we have something to work with\u2026<\/p>\n Let\u2019s face facts, we only want to talk to people who are worthy<\/em> of our attention, who give us their<\/em> attention too.\u00a0 We only really want to invest in personable relationships that are meaningful<\/em>.\u00a0 Everything else is really just a transaction that can be automated or AI-ed.\u00a0 So buy that VR headset and give up on transactional humanity\u2026 the future is in the Metaverse folks!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" My new reality is entirely digital, unless it\u2019s meaningful to me.\u00a0 I mean, actual conversations used to be cool, but…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":5184,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[867,959,891,953,57,958,1],"tags":[968,151,967],"organization":[],"ppma_author":[19],"class_list":["post-5183","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-artificial-intelligence","category-automation","category-banking","category-customer-experience","category-digital-transformation","category-metaverse","category-uncategorized","tag-ai","tag-automation","tag-metaverse"],"yoast_head":"\nThe Bottom-line: Our new reality is entirely digital unless it\u2019s meaningful to us.\u00a0 So the Metaverse it is… let’s go!<\/strong><\/h2>\n
