{"id":4471,"date":"2017-11-08T22:44:00","date_gmt":"2017-11-08T22:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/projects\/horsesforsources\/kirkwood-bollocks_110817\/"},"modified":"2017-11-08T22:44:00","modified_gmt":"2017-11-08T22:44:00","slug":"kirkwood-bollocks_110817","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.horsesforsources.com\/kirkwood-bollocks_110817\/","title":{"rendered":"AI is bollocks&#8230; or is it?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qC2W_3D2aZw\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Well someone actually said it &#8211; and it may not come as a complete shock that it&#8217;s come from everyone&#8217;s favorite RPA&nbsp;evangelist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/guykirkwood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Guy Kirkwood<\/a>, of&nbsp;UIPath&nbsp;fame. Even more impressive is guy&#8217;s beautiful command of the English&nbsp;language to describe the latest hyped term &#8220;AI&#8221;, now that most the hypesters&nbsp;have got bored touting the massively disruptive impacts of IoT and digital &#8211; and the automation conversations have just got a bit <em>rinse and repeat<\/em>.&nbsp; Guy is saying that&nbsp;<em>true&nbsp;AI<\/em> is when we arrive at the &#8220;singularity&#8221; (which Ray Kurzweil&nbsp;predicts will happen in 2029), when machines will become smarter than humans, abruptly triggering runaway technological growth, resulting in unfathomable changes to human civilization.<\/p>\n<p>Guy basically claims it&#8217;s incorrect that we are dubbing the conglomeration of tools, such as NLP, Machine Learning etc as &#8220;AI&#8221;.&nbsp; While I agree with Guy that the inane use of the term AI is driving me (and many of my colleagues) to scream &#8220;Please just stop the bollocks!&#8221;, my point to him is: what else do we call tools which are all about &#8220;the simulation of human thought processes across enterprise operations, where the system makes autonomous decisions, using high-level policies, constantly monitoring and optimizing its performance and automatically adapting itself to changing conditions and evolving business rules and dynamics.&#8221;&nbsp; So if this isn&#8217;t Artificial Intelligence, what is it?<\/p>\n<p>And my further point, here, is that these tools are<em> already here<\/em> and being heavily piloted and evaluated, according to 400 major enterprises in our recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hfsresearch.com\/pointsofview\/the-state-of-automation-ai-the-c-suites-number-one-strategic-imperative\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State of Automation and AI Study<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/storage\/app\/media\/Phil November 2017\/AI areas being evaluated.jpg\" width=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sorry, Guy, but while we all want to scream &#8220;<em>bollocks!&#8221;<\/em> at all the bollocks, I think we&#8217;re stuck with AI until the next buzz term comes along =)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well someone actually said it &#8211; and it may not come as a complete shock that it&#8217;s come from everyone&#8217;s&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[52,88,90],"tags":[103,104,303],"organization":[],"ppma_author":[19],"class_list":["post-4471","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-cognitive-computing","category-outsourcing-heros","category-robotic-process-automation","tag-analysts","tag-archat","tag-enterprise-irregulars"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.3 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>AI is bollocks... or is it?
